Beyond the academic curriculum

PROGRAMMES
———

Sixth form is primarily focused on academic achievement. Students develop subject knowledge, prepare for examinations and work hard to achieve the grades required for their next step.

But for many students, grades are just the starting point. Universities and employers are increasingly looking beyond academic attainment to understand how a student thinks, what they have experienced outside school and what they have learned from doing so.

Prologue Programmes are applied supercurricular opportunities that take learning beyond the academic curriculum, enabling sixth-form students to develop knowledge, apply what they learn and build capability through experience.

Every programme has a clear purpose. Students are not simply introduced to a subject; they are expected to use what they learn, make decisions, solve problems and reflect on the consequences.

From focused, practical Laboratories to immersive, applied Academies, programmes provide different levels of challenge and commitment — enabling students to build knowledge, test their interests and develop their capabilities through increasingly demanding experiences.

PURPOSE AND PROGRESSION
———

Prologue Laboratories

Prologue Laboratories are focused, practical programmes designed to equip students with useful knowledge, tools and skills in areas that matter beyond sixth form.

Students deepen their understanding and apply what they learn through practical activities, decisions and realistic scenarios, developing the judgement, confidence and independence to use their knowledge in real life.

In doing so, they gain practical experience before the stakes are real and are better prepared to make informed, independent decisions as they gain their independence.

Prologue Academies

Prologue Academies are immersive, applied supercurricular programmes that enable students to explore a professional field in depth.

Students deepen their understanding and apply their knowledge through a sustained, complex real-world challenge, developing transferable professional skills and building credible evidence of what they can do.

In doing so, they gain first-hand insight into the field and are better equipped to make informed decisions about whether — and how — they want to pursue it.
